HRA tax exemption

My PG rent is 11x the amount, but the HRA allotted to me from the company side is 17x, if I show 17x in papers, would it cause any trouble to the PG owner, I heard they would get notice. Is it okay to do so, please help here.

Seems like since last year the focus of government has shifted from actually making beneficial policies to enable innovation and growth of India to just collecting taxes blindly. They just want to harvest tax in as many ways possible and kill the middle class person. First it was crypto. Then us salaried individuals started receiving notices. Then they levied 28% GST on online gaming. Now they are also checking proofs for HRA allowance and other stupid stuff which wasn't done before. I was wondering why there is a sudden increase in such incidents? Is the government hiding something? Are they running out of money? Or are they just smoking weed just like us and making stupid rules?

Asking for a friend who is not on GV: Hi, while submitting HRA proofs, I forgot to attach the previous rent agreement which covered the first 5 months of the year. As a result, the team has come back and only approved hra claim for the period covered in the current agreement. They are saying there is no way for us to reupload additional proofs (previous agreement) for company-level hra processing, and that we should claim these remaining hra savings while filing taxes. Has anyone done so before? What is the process? Please advise, thank you.

I just started my first full time job and will be filing ITR for 1st time next year, no one in my family has been in high tax slab previously so not much experience from there :D Some questions: - Almost 50% of my base pay is getting used in paying EMIs (Mostly mortgage) of my family, nothing is on my name, all on father's name, is there a way to claim this in deduction ? - We have our own house in a tier 3 city and I'm getting 30k/month as HRA, what will be safe HRA amount to claim ? - Can we claim any other expenses in deduction ? Leave travel allowance seems useless to me as I'm working remotely. - Which tax regime do you prefer ? New or old ? I could have done investments to save taxes but nothing is left after all the expenses and nothing on my name 😛

One of my uncles (50 years old) has to pay Rs 37K tax every year, he is the sole earner in his family, he is a very simple and honest middle class man trying to provide for his family, is there any way that he can save that tax?
