Depressed after college placements

I'm a final year CSE undergraduate at VIT CHENNAI. So my college placements started in july week 1 . At the start of it there were big companies like phonePe Google Zomato Paypal WorkIndia and many others mostly 20lpa + package companies. Most of these would give out criteria for 9 pointers so I wouldn't get shortlisted, my CGPA isn't super bad it's 8.68 but still it hurt a bit being left out of these good companies because of cgpa. Now it's October Many companies have come and gone and I'm still not placed Sometimes it's because resume isn't shortlisted Sometimes my branch isn't shortlisted (I'm in a cse specialization course) sometimes i give exams and they go good but I dont get shortlisted further. Sometimes college net doesn't work while giving a test on campus. Sometimes company doesn't activate test link for some kids and I'm that unlucky guy . So after all of this , I'm heartbroken and depressed. I don't know what to do, where to look for off campus jobs or anything. Placements in my college carry on till jan next year probably, but it hurts seeing random people get selected over me even though I've done better academically etc . Do you guys have any advice/tips for me What should I do? How should I go look for jobs off campus Or how to prepare for placements Anything might be helpful so please do comment .

Here's what i can do

Sit in all college placements till jan
Go try for an off campus job
Do both together

Dont loose hope at all, it usually happens a lot in college campus placements. I along with 3-4 classmates who did pretty good in academics didn't get placed in initial drives. But we got best compensation later too. I was also depressed like you but will suggest only 2 things.
Dont loose hope at any point, you will never know when things will change Keep learning and improving urself, learn from each experience and gather as much knowledge as possible
You can connect with me privately if you need any help, would love to help u out

Try wellfound, they have some really good job openings for startups, and the interview process is relatively quick.

Ig thats the case for a lot of students. I have friends with backlogs and <50 leetcde questions getting placed for around 20 LPA (they didnt have anything special in their resume), while people who are really good (around 1500 rating on CF) are still unplaced. I myself have cleared Google Summer Of Code (not a big of a thing tbh) and am struggling to land any intern or a job. I am writing this so that you dont feel as if you are the only one having such problems, I would advice (though shouldn't have much value) to keep applying to the on campus placements and keep preparing for it. Off campus takes up a lot of time when asking for referral so you can look to apply to roles for which you have your college alumni in the company or doesnt need a referral.

Wishing you all the best

As a VIT student I can understand your situation. Even during my placements everyone cheated (with friends sitting around with chatgpt ) in online exams and got an interview call. Whereas me, who attends the online test genuinely didn't get shortlisted. I got opportunity to give interview only those companies gave resume shortlisting as 1st round and not OA. keep doing your best, u will be placed soon 👍

I was also great at academics but college placements were bad thus I applied a lot outside and got a 6 lpa job at a startup in 2021 for my first job, lots of learning, so I suggest that (as well as campus placements if PKG is good) and then you can switch later on
