How to switch my role from quality assurance engineer to a developer
I received my offer letter two days ago, and i was assigned to quality assurance spc role. However, I'm not really interested in testing and my HR isn't replying when i asked for a role switch. My question is there any alternative way to switch to a developer role? If so, I'd really like to view your opinions on it and i would also like to know what type of skills i should learn in that meantime. Thank you.
Refuse to join.... Simple as that, I know at a time like this rejecting a job is stupidity, but this is the exact thought which your HR is exploiting. If you still join then they will make you bend even more.
The problem is that I'm a fresher and i wasn't allowed to have more than one offer according to our college placement guidelines. Unfortunately, i don't think i can gamble my only offer. Thanks for your suggestion though.
Same thing happened with me too. Try to find offer offline,if not then join but don't leave hustling, kepp honing your skills and leave the job as soon as bond period is over or you find another job.

Don't join as QA if you don't want this is one mistake that will shape your entire career. Maybe it's good you spend time upskilling your coding and try in some startups. That will definitely help.

Not much you can do since it's a campus placement. I suffered the same way during mine, was offered a role that I didn't want and couldn't say no. So I found a different job by applying through job boards.
Try to find a job in your preferred role and just reject the offer once you do so because if the hr wants to act in bad faith there is nothing you can do as they know they have all the leverage. Startups recruit freshers, some will hire as a intern and give PPO after a couple of months. If you have time do that. It's a good way to get relevant experience for your role and easier to secure an offer that way.
If you are forced to join then keep trying for an internal transfer from Day 1 or keep upskilling through the company resources and seek opportunity elsewhere.

1. If there's no punishment by your college in leaving the company after joining it.
2. The company is a big name.
If both the above points hold true then, there is one more way:
1. Join the company and keep applying for a Developer role in Startups.
2. Make sure to bag an offer before your probation period ends. Don't forget to leverage your company's name during offer negotiation.
3. Leave the company before probation period ends and happily grow in the startup with an ok package.

See, in this method, if you have the skills to be a Developer then, you will find a Developer job but if you don't then, you won't loose your offer.
Grab the offer as the market is already in layoff mode and you are a fresher also. Wait till market stable and internally look for developer role. Side by side work on your skills, when market get in hiring mode, move to your development profile.
