Disappointed!!

So I work in a new york based startup and they hired me as project manager. I am from tech bg with 1 year of experience and no mgmt experience. Completing 2 years in this company and have created processes from scratch to increase team size and team dynamics. There was one conversation which HR heard out of context and started politics with CEO. Now in my review their "trust" overshadowed my "performance". They even out of nowhere telling my leaves were not judiciary! Now i don't trust this company anymore. Already my managers were too underperforming and disappointing.

There were many scenarios where I took in charge of anyone's absence and even in my absence took care of things.

They giving NO raise !!! Not even something to match inflation!

I am feeling very exhausted with company's policy and CEO being nosy in each and everything. And too disappointed in company's "trust" definitions.

Talked to my manager and cleared out my performance. Talking to CEO in next days to reclarify their issues.

Any help or word of advise???

How are we to judge your raise without any tc numbers?

It's not about judging raise. It's about trust overshadowing performance. How do you defend that when you are overperformer.

You can't. Trust is very important. Trust helps build relationships. If your relationship is bad with your boss you are not getting that raise/promo even if you are a good performer period. I know that it's messed up but that's how it is and we got to suck it up.

Startups! A good referral and early stage startups.

Where did you find these startups though. Angellist wasn't helpful for me

If you've let it escalate without speaking about it, you will be left defending yourself against hard perceptions. You need to have a candid conversation with the CEO. And in any case you sound like you are ready to move on...

My suggestion would be that you have a candid conversation. Don't be defensive. The focus of your conversation shouldn't be whether you did something wrong or not. What you need to find out and talk about is what specifically created a situation of mistrust. Get candid feedback on what the CEO thinks and the reason for that. Share with him your thoughts and see if guys can reach an agreement on avoiding such a situation in the future. That's the only way forward
