I was thinking on these lines and found this reel (Zuckerberg reading my mind tbh)

Is it okay to seek respect just because we are older in age? It is something we have been taught since childhood

Everyone deserves respect, period.

Nah, it has to be earned. I respect your rights as a fellow human, but I don't respect you

They want every word they say to be set in stone, they want us to obey them even if they have no idea of what they're talking about - because they "know more". Or even worse, they "know what's best for us". And if you eventually show them their thinking was wrong, man, why do you hate them so much? Didn't they raise you, feed you, etc etc

My take: if it is someone you know and intend to interact more often, it pays to start with respect, especially if they are older and are giving some opinions/advice. Sometimes, there is a lot to process from such inputs. It's in your interest not to lose it by being arrogant from start. You can of course ignore, oppose or argue once the input is heard and understood. Being older doesn't guarantee maturity, knowledge or wisdom. Sometimes you won't find the values marching. In that case, disengage respectfully.

Its definitely not okay and shouldn't be a norm. The only thing you can respect EVERY elder for is living more than you thats it. Every other thing is case to case and cant be generalized.

Same goes for any collective identities, females, religious people, teachers, etc etc

In my experience old people are generally more wrong about things than my teenage neice, she just spits facts while old people spit orthodox opinions
