Does design system kill creativity in the long run?

We built a very scalable design system for web and mobile app (Has B2B & B2C angle). But after a point I feel it's restricting the creativity especially for certain celebratory/sad events. Sure we can tweak the design system create variants and what not. At this point I feel just a very basic design system is enough to run the show. Anybody else feels this way? Thoughts?

No, it does not. Creativity comes to solve problem. If current component is failed to do that job. New component must come.

Difference is between necessary and good to have, and eventually price/performance optimization rather than summarising it as a tweak
