Should I get into Product Management?

I've been working as a Senior Analyst at a startup for 4+ years, and I've always wanted to become a Product Manager to make a big difference. So, I've started getting ready for it. - I've noticed a concerning trend among PMs, both through personal observation and online discussions, where they tend to overlook data integrity, opting instead to manipulate it to portray success. - I firmly believe that Product Managers play a pivotal role in taking calculated risks, fostering innovation, and ultimately ensuring the success of their products. - Despite being well-compensated in my current position, my drive to optimize the top of the funnel compels me to pursue a career shift into Product Management. - I firmly believe that power within a company comes with a corresponding responsibility. - It's evident that many PMs are fighting with dissatisfaction, often experiencing high levels of stress and unhappiness. I'm keen to understand the root causes of this discontent and how professionals in this field are managing such challenges. - Despite being inherently talented individuals, why does Product Management seem to come with such a significant stress burden?

1. Product Managers make no impact. Forget big. Instead they create a million more problems and create fraud companies through and through. 2. Since you are analyst, yes you are already a better value added than all the cheap PMs in top prod companies in India. Analysts also drive strategy. Look seriously into that role. Analytics is meant to aid business decisions. So a good chunk of them grow to be exceptional management consultants... That's a serious track as well 3. Product Management job description is good. But 2 things both the existing breed of PMs don't do 1% of that job description. Worse they are very pathetic and don't even qualify for that job. At best PM's are engineering's Bitch. We certainly keep them around so that business folk don't trouble us directly, and if thy need a punching bag we throw out worst candidate under the bus for them... The PMs. All in all your aspirations are not wrong, however in reality product managers are the least respected part in a product company. It's dead opposite to your ambitions sadly. Even I wanted to be a PM first, but then fuck me looking at the quality of the existing breed and how they are treated in the org, they are way too bad sadly. Choose. I feel if a strong tech person becomes a PM he can certainly make a big difference.. But the problem is if an existing PM hires you, or an existing org hires you as a PM you are hired only to do cheap work remember that. Maybe in a early stage startup you might get ur due of good work.. but I seriously doubt in the existing orgs you will do any good

Product mgmt in danger??

I worked hard for last 2-3 years and finally got into product mgmt from business strategy role. Now I keep listening that product mgmt is a dying career, it has no future, it will be gobbled up by AI. I am really exhausted of this catchup game. I sometimes feel that things would have been better if I had joined some FMCG company in a supply chain - ops role. Those roles are much more stable than these high stress startup roles. What should be my plan to lead a more peaceful yet decently high paying career? In need of some great advice folks...pls share valuable comments 🙂

How to up your game as a Product Manager?

I am PM with around 5 yrs of experience. I’m struggling to take my skill to next level. always receive feedback from management that output isn’t good, mostly that UX isn’t good. what can I do to improve my work? 1. Read books ? 2. Study successful products from outside ? 3. Listen to podcasts 4. Work with great product people? but hardly these exist 5. leave this field altogether? 6. Just have patience and keep learning everyday? Can experienced people share what has worked out well for them? or point me to some directions?

Where to go after Product???

Hey folks, I'm wondering what kinda role I should pursue next after product management. I'm done with this role, works vary from company to company and team to team. It's tough to make people understand the difference between pre-PMF products & mature products, and how the metrics impact vary across the spectrum. And this completely changes the equation of your appraisal or your promotion as well. I don't see myself working in the same kind of role after 5 years. So I'm wondering what kinda role I should look out for? My general interests are more analytics & strategy centric. What do you guys think??

Why do people shit on product managers

Coding is like solving 2+2 but coders take pride in the fact that you do it in English but I can do it in Sanskrit.Iykwim. I have coded for two years and as long as you're well versed in a language it's like making simple additions and subtractions in that language. Still coders make mistakes because they're lazy and incompetent like the rest of us . 80 percentage of coders just solve basics and still act like it's a big deal . Product Managers are not special I get it but coders are not special too just by knowing a language. It's like a bilingual person shitting on someone who knows just one language. When we all know if you're brought up in a certain way it's very easy to speak in two languages like we all do in India.
