Why should school marks matter even after 10 years?
I completed my schooling 10 years back. Do companies think my good/bad marks then define me as an employee even now? Why do they still ask for it? Is it the same abroad or is it just Indian that whore for marks? Got rejected from most fintechs when identical profiles are getting selected.

Never heard of anyone getting rejected because of school marks. It must be a shit company or there was some other reason.
Have been working for over 10 years with startups. No one has even asked my college GPA ever.

Wish I were as skilled as you are. Companies on my campus atm are literally using excel filters on GPA to shortlist candidates

For companies they optimize the process to avoid hiring bad candidates even if that means that they miss on good candidates. Good companies get a ton of resumes of candidates who are equally good but with better academic record.
There is a famous quote "nobody got fired for buying IBM". Similarly, nobody got fired for choosing candidates with good academics.

You encounter this only as a fresher. Look for Bengaluru/ Hyd startups. I have seen a 10th pass working as a frontend dev with 18lpa package in 2 years. He isnt even 12th pass.
Once u gain exp, no one will ask for it. Just a temporary issues and a prevalent one in Delhi ncr market existing from over a decade

we have too many people for any job. this is just a method for filtering. A company cannot conduct test for each and every applicant to check the knowledge levels. Depening on the candidate pool, criteria changes. For freshers they look for marks. Starting with graduation, then 12th and then 10th according to the number of candidates.

Where do you even submit your school marks when applying for a position?
My first company is Fintech. Forget about marks, I didn't even graduate. Asked the HR if they wanted to hire engineers or graduates, got interviewed and then spent 4 years there. The reason for rejection might be something else.
