I worked in one of the WITCH company. Most of the middle Managers are just email routers and no real depth in expertise or hands on with technical. What do you think? How would this year pan out?

Middle manager role is valuable but if you look Middle managers in WITCH companies, they don't add any value to the project apart from approving time sheets, arranging daily stand ups, they rarely contribute to technically and are in too much comfort zone, they don't upgrade skillsets to stay relevant in Industry, and have loads of attitude and ego in their heads, I worked under toxic manager where he always expects Yes without knowing complexity of task and later pushed entire project into escalation and finally blamed technical team, those kinds managers should be Fired, This is welcome move by Wipro. I fully support it.

Completely agree, Wipro has tons of middle level managers and on-site leads, they should have done it before only. Because of these toxic middle level leads, many talented people have quit wipro. Finally Wipro has realized what’s their real problem for lower margins and bad rating in the IT industry.

“target mid-level executives stationed onsite” Onsite folks would be costlier anyway

@FunnyBones They may be costlier, but they earn more revenue.

Not directly unless they are also hands on somehow

That position/designation/stage is itself a trap, one must quickly get out of it.

Some people become lazy in that stage, some become evil, some become evil after being lazy for longtime.

Constant fear of being replaced by senior person from lower level, so push them down such people whenever they appear or hide such people from higher management.

Such people can't be replaced when shit/project is on fire (for any other reason) so create problems in project every now and then.

Stop innovation in project because work might get reduced in project or innovator will get noticed for extraordinary talent, lessening importance in org curtailing chances of promotion.

Exceptions are everywhere but this is the pattern

At some point this had to happen. Contribution by these middle manager mostly doesnt match their pay. IMO, these middle managers are there just to spoon feed the sr. managers. Most senior manager don't even lift a finger. They dont even prepare basic reports, that can just be download. They delegate that to these middle managers.
