Write a simple and clear application. Don’t over optimise or waste too much time. 90% drop off anyway. Here its either traction or team

We got an interview call based on just an idea last batch. 2 founders with 8 yoe each (engg, PM).

Interview itself is random af. 10 mins only. Ours was going well till they realized we had not launched (they honestly thought our figma prototype demo was a real app despite us mentioning it was a demo). Asked to apply again later once launched. Probably won’t.

YC is great for saas with some initial revenue, otherwise if you have an mvp and some traction- indian seed ecosystem will give you a much better deal and relevant connects going forward. YC may help only if you are a bit of an outlier AND have traction

What was your segment if I may ask? Also, thanks for pointing out the need for an MVP. YC says that it's fine to apply even with an idea and don't require to even establish your firm legally. Is it true? You have any idea how many such teams get selected to their program?

200-250 is batch size. 90% or so are SF based. Past few batches had 4-8 from India afaik

We are working on a consumer app with a fintech monetisation layer. Just got started full time last month so were super unprepared when the interview happened in May.

You can apply with an idea but expect to need to have something launched by interview stage - which is fair tbh . The partners don’t have india context and take 10 mins to interview. So without traction its almost impossible to take a call. Then again, with traction its much much easier and useful to raise a pre seed/seed from Indian funds
