Here’s what you need to know about how PMing is different at small vs big companies?

When I say a big company, I mean $50B+ market cap. I think PMing at a smaller scale is much more intense in terms of work load. You are constantly doing a lot of 0-1/1-10/10-100. But what about 100++ companies/products? What does a PM at Gmail do? How do they fill up their day? I mean how many experiments can one perform? Is PMing at that scale majorly just project management? For PMs who moved from high growth startups to companies like PayPal, Google, Microsoft -- do you get bored?

Hi everyone, I came across a 36 week product management course from IIM Kozhikode (Approx 1.8 L + GST) and a 12 week program from ISB (Approx 1.4 L + GST). Do these courses/programs help? I am interested in understanding product management better and if these courses will help me in achieving that (and potentially help my career), I might enroll in one of these 2 courses. A bit of background - I am nearing 16 years in IT. Was primarily into Automation testing and now am a Test Manager in a big4. I am okayish with my current salary but wouldn't think twice if a better role with better pay came my way. Also, don't mind moving from a Test Manager role to Product Management. I browsed through the curriculum and some of the topics I am already familiar with. Would you suggest I enroll in one of these courses and will it help having a certification from one of these institutes? I guess I could also read books and browse YouTube for knowledge but,I doubt that would have the same impact as one of these courses (provided they are of use and actually have good content).

Note - I am a product manager too 4 out of 5 product managers will act all high and mighty of themselves, bragging their way as if they run everything going on in the company, flaunting their business degrees and being utterly disrespectful towards their team( dev design qa name it), Recently started going to office so the attitude I am seeing is very transparent and more visible (more with the higher experience folks) It makes me wanna leave this hyper inflated role, thinking of I will end up like them scares me, and you have to do is speak out jargons in meetings day in day out and have a English accent of Shashi Tharoor. Recently my manager told that this is a role where you have to very representable or very visible and act in floor as if you are the busiest person on earth and I seriously some PMs in company doing that, they walk so fast in floor as if they will fall off or would be better to have 4 legs.

How would you compare India-based product roles at MNCs (like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Walmart, Uber) with PM opportunities at India-based tech startups (Flipkart, Inmobi, Zomato, Swiggy, Ola)? What are the gives and gets?

I don't see pm working in team, rest everyone like engineers, designers and analyst tend to work together. If you are a senior PM how does you feel

So with advancement in technology since decade and then the COVID wave , many startups were having money flowing into them from VCs and there was a boost in Indian startup ecosystem, many startups achieved the status of unicorn too , i am not saying product managers were not existing before , ofcourse they were there buliding some amazing products for the users out there, but do you think that the extra cash that was coming into the system created so many product management roles as a generalist and gave rise to popularity of product management and now we can see every second person wants to be a PM

What are some of the great companies to work for as a starting PM post MBA in India. I think in many of companies role of PM is not properly defined and it caters to borderline project management.

Is an MBA necessary for this? What if one tries to get some experience internally? Is there a difference in what Product Managers do in tech companies vs. Consulting companies like McKinsey etc?
