Feeling low becoz of my base CTC
Hello Viners! I wanted to share my CTC journey and looking to seek your opinion on this!
Joined Fintech(Paytm) last year with 3.5 YOE - 31LPA(Base) [Current] LaidOff but Got an offer in a SaaS company during my NP - 31LPA(Base)
YOE - 4.5 Years
Most of the companies I interviewed for were not able to match my current fixed because of which I took this offer. Now I feel like my Base is low as compared to the market average in terms of YOE which makes me worry about my career’s progression. Do you also feel the same?
But at the same time I am grateful that in this job market, I have got a job. What do you think? Am I rationally thinking here? I live with my parents and they are partially dependent on me. I hope I have made a correct decision.
4 years 31LPA base is low ?
The salary progression report and posts that I see on GV with similar YOE makes me think otherwise. My only aspiration is to be with market’s average NOT above that. That’s why I posted my situation and thought to seek advice from folks here
I'm 26 base for <2 yoe so it's slightly on the low side
GV is becoming another Quora
Please don’t consider this post as those typical Quora posts.

How did you calculate market average?
You're trying to average out of a 0.01% crowd on this platform, if I'm not wrong. Reality is quite different. Nothing wrong in aspiring though! But your numbers are definitely not bad either. This is the kind of depression any relatively new joiner on GV faces.
Hmm, that makes sense! Thanks for your opinion
Which role? Developer?
Yes, SSE
25 (+2/3 ish) around is logically justified. You are already higher than that.
The more you compare and chase, the more unhappy you become as the rule of life.
This also contributes heavily to the entire salary and consumption bubble that India is wrapped under currently.
People buying crores worth properties at high rises and willing to pay anything without applying any basic senses or analysing value of money for the product purchased etc and what not.
Bottom of the story : You are not underpaid, rather overpaid.
