Background: i was a developer for 4 years and a product/project manager for a year on a contract basis.
I've made enough posts on here and reddit about not getting PM opportunities in this market. I'm seriously considering going back to tech, then trying to switch internally.
My advice:
- Keep up with what you're learning .
- Target business analyst, data analyst, product analyst. You'll have a very high probability of getting into these right now.
- Learn learn learn on the job. That's the real experience you'll get.
- Stay there for 2+ years, then you're next switch will be a product manager role.
If you're thinking you can easily do it because you did some 8 weeks bootcamp and saw some guy on YouTube getting the job, it's all delusion my friend. Trust me. You have to build something (early career), then you can go for whom to build and why(pm).
Get the above mentioned roles, you'll be working under PMs. After getting experience, switch internally.
Feel free to DM, cheers
