Future GPT is to Coding what AlphaZero is to Chess

Prediction below, open to feedback and criticism:

As soon as GPT can learn programming languages through self reinforcement learning, it will become invincible and you will be able to create webapps at negligible cost by just giving it objectives. Coding as a career is likely downhill from here on.

Right now, we are in the DeepBlue version of GPT. It has learned from all the code available online just like DeepBlue had all human chess moves till then as its training data.

But AlphaZero learned on its own from ground up, and similarly led to AlphaGo later on.

Future GPT will learn all programming languages on its own from ground up, and deliver fully functional apps at neglible cost.

And let's not even get started on the fact that AlphaZero is an adversarial model that trained in deterministic environments (Chess, Go, DOTA)

Economics 101 is that human behaviour and consumption patterns are not deterministic.

How exactly do you propose GPT going to gauge itself on code quality or new languages to achieve a similar ramp up on proposing effective business solutions?

GPT is a text generator. It has no understanding of the underlying engineering or business model for an app

You’d be surprised by what is already in the works right now with LLMs and Lang Chain and providing chained LLMs an IDE and much more. Progress is being made by the week.

Because the only thing that engineers do when designing web apps / websites / services is to write code that shows the UI

Who cares about engineering for handling high volumes, scaling, business logic implementation, improving user retention

Seriously feels like everyone talking about the power of GPT and it's invincibility doesn't actually understand why it's called software engineering

Code is the implementation. It's 20% of the engineering process.

If your "fully functional app at negligible cost" is backed up by a poor business model, bad user retention and experience, inability to scale and handle loads -> it's worthless.

Why would GPT then need to learn a new language? Can't it just go into assembly and rock some shit?

First of all GPT isn't RL, exept the quality of text generation is improved with RLHF.

Secondly, No GPT can replace you, rather it will enhance your work quality and productivity. Think of sword to swordsman.

Coding will be dead soon

That's not what am saying or pre assuming.

But the brain behind those supercomputers h100 and all, who is making LLMs train faster.

GPT 5.0 can do miracles and imagine 8.0 coupled with those 1nm GPUs.

I still believe that not 10...

How to stay relevant post AI takeover?

Let’s say If, A big if, AI becomes self sufficient to do the job of a backend developer, like it’s able to write basic crud apps, simple system design stuff it can do and slowly it keeps getting better at debugging and stuff. (It should ...

Time for SWEs to get disrupted

Looks like our world is about to end, GPT can write better code in any language then a human.

Can write spark, sql, react apps with unit testing and can cover more edge cases then humans can ever think of.

openAI ftw

Do you use code interpreter for your tasks?

Content and marketing folks are pretty much using ChatGPT all the time now. Wondering if coders and operation folks are also using it for work or not.

I've started trying long form content generation where tokens are spent repeatedly un...
