This move was done to increase client acquisition, not because GCP is shutting down.
Free egress doesn't mean they don't make more profits. In B2B, some free features or services are provided so that overall revenue/profits can be increased - B2B PMs can confirm. In economics, we call this playing with the price elasticity of the product.
Thats a way of saying
Move to GCP, if you don't like leave and take your data and we won't charge you if you don't find GCP better.

Google might be either pushing other cloud services to provide free transfer or is it signalling at end of GCP and exiting cloud business, as it pays tolls on P&L for Google and isn't profitable as far I know
