HELP - ACL knee ligament injury

Need genuine help/advice on solving my knee ligament injury. Any experience/advice that someone can share would be helpful.

Some background - I used to play football semi- professionally until I tore my knee ligament 7-8 years back while playing. Couldn't even walk for almost 3-4 months and was heartbroken to be honest.

The next 2-3 years was a period of pain and depression as I kept trying again and again to get back once in the game every 8-9 months after doing regular physiotherapy and all sorts of knee strengthening exercises but to no avail, everytime I did, my knee used to slip and the excruciating pain used to kick in. I've had fractures before but goddamn the knee ligament pain is probably 3x worse. I've contacted many doctors and orthopaedics and all of em' have given me no hope to help me provide a permanent solution to this knee slip problem that comes up when I even attempt to play the game. They've either recommended a surgery which they is risky as it might tear again when I play or they've recommended just physiotherapy but the latter approach hasn't worked for me. I really wish to get back atleast in some form coz I miss the game so much. I also swim and brisk walk to keep myself fit but nothing gives me the joy football used to give me.

Any folks who can help me out here or share their experience if any! Much appreciated 👍

An ACL surgery is mostly routine nowadays. Why would you say it's risky? My wife had one 3 years back and is completely fine now (Tore it playing baddie).

Just make sure you go to a good doc and have great physio help.

I'm not sure if it's risky or not. 3-4 orthopaedics have given me this feedback.

They say surgery is only effective if you don't engage in sport later on. But if you do, chances are high that it'll break again

If you don't strenghen post surgery with proper physio & strength training, yes, you can tear it.

Hector Bellerin has put up a documentary on his recovery from ACL on YouTube. However not everyone will have access to resources like him.

It depends on the magnitude. Sometimes surgery is the only permanent solution. Delaying that could lead to other implications as well.

The recovery is going to be long and painful but it's worth it. My cousin had to get his ACL reconstructed and was out of action for a few months. After intense physio, he's able to play and workout now but with reduced intensity.

Got Medial meniscus tear 2 weeks back. Currently on bed rest. Was Dr. suggested to me is that 95% cases heal on their own only if you are not a soorts person.

If you play sports/hike/trekk going for surgery is better option as post surgery rest and physio will also take time.

Currently I am on rest, let’s see what happens.
I am hopeful readon being, my best friend too got ACL tear while playing football and underwent surgery and couple of years later he is able to play all sports. Completely fit guy, active sportperson.
So I am also hoping that everything will be back to normal.
