Honestly, I’m fed up. You ace interviews, work tirelessly on assignments, and then get an email saying, “Thanks, but we’re moving forward with other candidates.” I’ve been at this for 3-4 months, and it’s draining.
I started out applying to startups because I love working in small, agile teams, but most just use assignments as a way to scam you.
I’ve stopped doing assignments altogether and now tell companies upfront that I won’t be able to complete one due to my schedule. Instead, I offer alternatives like brainstorming or whiteboarding.
Now, applying to bigger companies is no better. They get so many applicants, most recruiters just pull from their referral pool. I’ve sent connect requests to 50 people at one company, and the success rate is barely 1%.
I’m also done with “star” recruiters who boast thousands of followers and claim to help, only to realize they’re just engagement farming. The same goes for Twitter designers with less than 3k followers who say “DM if you’re interested,” then ignore you when you do.
What’s going on? Is it office politics, ego trips, or power games? I don’t get why people won’t even help with a simple referral, especially when it would benefit them too.
PLEASE, can anyone HELP? 🙏🏼
