How much equity should I ask?
I'm considering an offer from a BLR based startup which is >Series D. This is for a Growth role.
Currently in a Series B startup where I have been for about 3 years now (been here since inception) and have 1% equity. What would be the right % of equity to ask for while making the switch? 9 YOE.
Would also be helpful if anyone can share the benchmarking of % equity for maybe every Series for the larger benefit of the community. TIA.

This is super difficult to answer without knowing your current comp, role seniority, current firm valuation, new firm valuation. At later stages, unless you come in as ceo/CXO, esops negotiations come in xx lakhs and not %xx
Sure, some more context.
Current CTC: 35 fixed + 28 ESOPS
Seniority: Team Lead (9+ YOE), New role in discussion for AVP.
Current firm valuation: 100M
New firm valuation: 1B+

Assuming yearly current esops is 28 lakhs
AVP sounds like a ceo minus 2/3 role. Tbh, very unlikely that esop discussions will happen over a x%
You should try to get a 30-40% hike over current, try to get competing offers

Have benchmarks more readily available for the early stages, but no idea for Series D It seems like you are fairly senior - not sure if you have colleagues in other similar positions who you could ask :P
If I had to take a very random guess, I'd probably ask for 1:1 equity:esops because that's what I've seen employees after the first 20 getting (not in terms of % of company at that point)
But honestly, don't have a strong reasoning here.
I get it. Can you please share for the early stage ones as well? Should be helpful in case I'm looking at any other org.
If it happens, it will be my first switch from a startup to startup. So I'm kinda curious here.
