How much increment is enough?

This year, the increments in my company were fairly good, with an average of 21% and the highest being 30% in my team of 10 people. The average rating was 4/5. Given the current market situation, these increments can be considered decent. However, despite these figures, none of the team members seem satisfied. Last year’s increments were better, but still, this year’s numbers aren’t bad.

Considering our positive company culture and manageable work pressure, I’m curious to understand why the expectation might be so skewed. How much of an increment is generally enough to make employees happy? Were the increments really that bad, or is there something else at play here?

No amount of increment will make employees happy. no amount of hard work will satisfy managers. This is universal truth.

generally speaking, firing few members of the team and giving 1 or 2% hike will generally keep employees satisfied. or atleast stop them from cribbing.

I am the manager and am more than satisfied with the performance, in fact proud of the team. What my manager thinks is debatable 😅. Kinda getting tired of constantly hearing the cribbing part about increments.

The problem is last year it was more. We had 0% last year, so 20% this year will make some of us cry.

I agree, that might be the case. Most of the guys were under the impression, last year itna hua tha to is bar to itna hoga hi.

Difficult to comment without more context .. but safe to say that 20% increments across the board are unsustainable. Neither is large scale hiring where there isn’t a clear visibility on profitability. Fixed sgna costs can’t balloon like this. Early stages organisations may do this but it WILL END IN TEARS.
