Indian Middle Class is vanishing

  1. Middle-class shrinking in India, clearly seen through Nestle's market data. Their CEO literally says they're operating in "two Indias."

  2. Premium products thriving while basic goods struggle. This is showing growing gap between rich and poor consumers.

  3. Digital divide widening: E-commerce (38% growth) mainly benefits urban areas, leaving rural areas behind.

  4. Price pressures hitting lower income groups harder: Example of coffee prices up 60%, forcing 15-30% product price increases.

  5. This isn't a temporary blip - slowdown has lasted 2-3 quarters (vs usual 1 quarter), suggesting a fundamental shift in consumer wealth patterns.

It also means that milk and nutrition being worst hit can also create nutrition inequality. You will find that the height difference between both groups will start to widen.

I now spend twice as much each month compared to five years ago, yet my standard of living remains the same. It's challenging to compete with Indian salaries when someone with dollars can purchase goods, particularly real estate, in the same market.

villages and smaller towns are the vote banks. goverments will continue to bleed cities to pamper villages/towns. how many know that BSNL broadband has two kinds of charges for the same speed? its cheaper for rural areas. The 70 saw the migration pick up from villages to cities. the main reason was villages didnt offer much to stay and work there. 2030's will see the reverse migration. Cities are expensive and unlivable.

Liabilities and high interest loans rising, household savings falling. It's a very worrying statistic if people are borrowing money just to stay afloat.
