L6 staff at google- AMA
Travelling over the next few hours. Thought of doing an AMA. First job out of college, 8+ year experience. TC :1.8cr
YoE: 10.7 (7@amazon — SDE3 for 2.7 years) Current designation: SDE3 Current salary : 92L + 25L stock Location: BLR, IN
I got a call from google for L7 role (BLR) which is staff role in India afaik. HR mentioned Payrange: 2-3Cr
I get mixed reviews from people so asking again for BLR folks:
I am looking for responses from people who have actually gone through similar experiences rather than “I heard from my sources”.
Bhai don't let anyone you to not try this fortune. Just do it. People will reject tap water for Bisleri and then eat Pani_puri at road side.
L7 is senior staff. It's like similar to Principal SDE / Senior principal SDE in Amazon. Hence the pay scope. Half of it might be stocks if not more.
Standard leetcode and sys design ain't gonna get you in. You'd have to show impact in your current role
Thanks!
For L7, you will have to show wide impact. It’s a senior staff role, it doesn’t map to Amazon l5. At L7 leadership skills matter just as much technical knowledge.
Although google does love to down level, they might end up giving L6 offer which is staff. It will still come with a significant pay bump.
Lol; in most cases Amazon L7 is mapped to Google L6! But Amazon L6 is not getting Google L5. About this issue, most of the HR, recruiters etc were laid off & since then all third party & new folks are doing the maths. Otherwise they
would have never send a L7 interview request.
L7 pay ie beyond 2.65 and it goes upto +3.25 Cr. I have seen only once a L7 SDM of Amazon making it to L7 IC at G.

My experience: 4.5 Current base: 30
This is what they have offered me: Base: 37 15% standard bonus Equity: 100k No other component
Any thoughts on this? I was expecting much more from Google...
Every other person I see on Linkedin/Fb is joining Google. Can anyone from inside shed some light here? How's the work culture and quality of life?
Reminded me of the good old days when everyone was joining Amazon.
Google is on a hiring spree. But they have reduced their compensation and are also lowballing massively.
