Investment Banking

Any IB folks here ? Am from a tier 1 college, JEE <400, Mathematics undergrad

Most of my seniors are into SDE/ML/Quant

I have a decent amount of knowledge in financial modelling , and a good grasp of Python, and SQL

Okayish on PowerPoint

Did a research internship on options pricing

How do I break into IB ? I will be eligible to take CFA in August 2025, before that I am looking for an internship to boost my skills

Itne samajhdaar ho. JEE<400. Math and Computing from IIT Delhi (probably). Why do you want to go into this rubbish profession? What do you think is the charm of Investment Banking? Investment Banking is not modelling. It's a sales job. That is done by the MDs. First they sell promises to companies. Then they sell stories to investors. A great investments banker is someone who brings two unwilling parties together, does M&A that leads to value destruction, makes his (or her) 2-3% and leaves. The analyst is just a tool who does modeling and ppt to support the MD's story. What do you think you'll learn from this?

JPMC came for campus internships for an IB position and that piqued my interest. I will be eligible for campus internships only next year. Am not really into SDE , ML is an option but I happen to have a fascination with finance

I do get your drift though, makes sense

although IB/VC/consulting will not at all be as stimulating as something like ML/Quant, it depends all on what your interest is based in.

if you think you wanna go more to the business side of things than tech then IB/VC/Consulting might be the best for you, you can work at top VC/PE firms a few years down the line and can have a strong chance of getting into M7 for MBA if you play your cards right, in IB and consulting the first few years will be grunt work though, but the growth is assymetric. also don't think about compensation, exit options in these industry are INSANELY lucrative (esp PE, can expext 70-1cr TC),

Hi, I'm a recent graduate from tier 3 engineering college with a background in computer science degree, I am interested in finance and business but as of now I have no knowledge in finance, and I don't have interest in pursuing a technical job, so can you please help me on how to start with a career in finance and business.

Thank you.

ML is nothing to do with investment banking.. ML is development(more technical) job where as IB is strategic (more functional) job
