Is a 1 year Full Time MBA from IIM worth for someone who is already in a Decent company and role

Owing to the fact that my friend has an offer from IIM Kozhikode PGP BL programme but given by 6yrs of work he is skeptical whether to go with the programme or not. Given the fact that he almost makes 60 -70% salary of what he would be drawing post the programme (Median CTC) and the fees is close to 30L for 1 year. Is the IIM tag so overhyped or is it worth taking the risk and where he might end up spending the crucial part of his life in Bigger EMIs?

I will give a framework to your friend, definitely, such life-changing decisions can't be one-sided and more context-driven, and situational for an individual -

  1. Is he only driven by the money?

  2. Is he carrying any other Tier 1 branding on his profile?

  3. If PGP-BL have an on-campus placement component?

  4. If your friend carries any financial liabilities, or responsibilities other than his?

  5. If he has interacted with the last PGP-BL folks?

Try getting answers to these, maybe it will be easier for people to answer.

I think these 1 year MBAs are more for switching career track, than about earning better money. Without an MBA can you completely switch to non-tech role? May be yes, but very limited options with much slower growth. But an MBA will carve out a quick careerpath change
