Is a Degree the Only Key to Unlocking Top Design Jobs?
Noticeable trend: M.Des from IIT/NID often guarantees top design jobs. But should degree status outweigh skills? Let's discuss! How can we prioritize diverse talent & capabilities over credentials?
#DesignHiring #DiversityInDesign #SkillsOverCredentials
YES! It wasn’t the case pre-covid, but during covid every tom dick and harry became a mentor/design teacher and opened design bootcamps. Since then, companies who truly care about design quality, prefer to hire designers with tier-1 design degrees.
Agreed.
While acknowledging the prestige of tier 1 design degree, I question the assumption that an M.Des degree guarantees superior design skills. Creativity and innovation know no pedigree.
Multiple rounds of evaluation can identify top talent, regardless of educational background.
I think inclusive hiring practices could be considered where skills are assessed and not assumed based on credentials alone.
