Is it worth it? Is the American Dream achievable and worthwhile?

Everyone I asks says it’s not worth it but not a single soul I know has returned and each and everyone now own a house there after 6-7 years. So can’t trust the feedback.

People lie a lot. You can have a better life in India but absolute terms? Life in the US hands down beats Indian life if you are top 0.1%

+1.... the quality of life is unmatched. When i told my manager, that i wont be able to take call after 5 as some of my family is here... he never setup a call after 4pm for the next 3 months... expecting a family life is appreciated there. Came back to india, my stupid manager called me evening - on diwali eve and wanted me to login and finish the report. The UK guy asked me to log off and send the report after diwali. I would trade kidney if that will get me back there.

It's not worth it unless you can apply for EB1 (if you have papers , EB1A or B possible). You are constantly under pressure to lose your job and pack up within 60 days if you are in H1B. If you can handle this pressure, perhaps go for it

They don't want competition. If you land a top 15 school for CS and land a good job then you get around 150-200k pre tax. More if you land faang or other top companies. That ain't a small amount and will just keep getting higher. It's just gotten incredibly hard now but not completely impossible.
