Is MAANG hype even worth it ?
I am a Software Developer in a startup, just 1 year in the industry. I feel I am really passionate about tech and the opportunities it can create. Apart from the job hours, I try to work on other stuff like graphics engineering, WebRTC and some side projects. Everyone around me talks about getting into these MAANG companies and how life becomes smooth after that.
But I have heard that the growth in terms of learning is not that good in these companies and people start getting bored. So I have a question for people who work in MAANG or similar companies - Is the hype really worth it ? Especially for people like me who likes to take on new problems.
The hype is worth it for the stocks you get and the WLB cos of those being big organisations (except amazon perhaps). If you’re in something like an NVIDIA and a middling developer 50th percentile on the performance benchmark - you’ll still get a 18x multiplier on your RSUs over the past 5 year period. These companies have very small and specific groups driving most of the innovation, the rest are doing business as usual work and keeping the house in order but also get to reap the reward given the nature of the stock market.
