John Oliver just dropped a video on McKinsey

The video just explains a lot about McKinsey, BCG and Bain and how they operate. It just makes a lot of sense now how ex-McKinsey/BCG/Bain based founders have such low ethical/moral standards and how work culture is generally terrible in those companies.

Also, do read about Purdue Pharma which is directly responsible for pushing millions into drug addiction in the USA with McKinsey helping them.

It's a must watch and available on YouTube.

The consultants are for the following reasons :

  1. The management wants to take a certain decision regarding a situation.
  2. Consultants come and validate this decision basis fancy ppts and ‘expert interviews’.
  3. Board of the company / investors agree and give the go ahead to the management basis their presentation.
  4. (I) positive outcome - management triumph, management gets bonuses. (II) negative outcome - McK/bcg/Bain suggested it, we went by their advice.
  5. McK/BCG/Bain to board : Macro environment changed, give us another multimillion dollar project to arrive at solution.
  6. Board : Yes ✅, also audit karo ye management ka. (Enter audit firm like Grant Thornton)

I don't know why MBB gets targeted as these big consulting giants when Deloitte is bigger than all 3 combined......

All the good management consulting stuff goes to those 3. They get all the prestigious stuff.

The leftovers are handled by Deloitte and others.

Re: purdue Pharma- watch the tv show Dopesick. Master class on how management can grow delusional and go from good to evil because of corporate greed.

There is a book called When McKinsey Comes To Town by Michael Forsyth and Walt Bogdanich. It’s a very interesting read into how these consulting firms work and the kind of influence McKinsey has. Truly impressive and concerning!
