Lessons from the layoffs?
I was laid off last year, the CTC was reasonably high there (110k USD base, not practical in India ik... Maybe that's why they had to cut us off). That of course was quite a down time but I was happy that I had a lot of side projects in hand, and was up to date with the tech stack. It's something I learned, "A company is a company, nothing less or more than that.
Curious to know, what are your lessons from these times? That one thing you wish you told/reminded yourself before these lay offs?
To me, it would be:
- Stay humble. Your salary or your company shouldn't define your attitude.
- Keep learning. Find time for your personal growth.
- Stay active in the community, be aware of what's happening. Be it good or bad, it can come to you as well.
- Save while you can! Savings have helped me a lot.
P.S: I mentioned my base pay from prev salary not to boast about it, there is nothing to boast about tbh ... It's just to mention more context.
Where yall finding these 100k usd jobs sitting at home from?
I used to do a lot of side projects. Mostly they notice you, otherwise you notice them.
Though, it's just like, if you look out for money, that's the exact thing you will never get. To me, I never looked for such a high paying job, only after getting selected they told me the offer. I was happy with 30-40 LPA :))
That's pretty cool man. What's your tech stack and yoe?
Definitely had many colleagues get laid off who were being paid quite well and were in comfortable careers.
The layoffs have hit very accomplished big company people hardest. People in startups always knew that startups are risky.
That's well said! I assume, no one can ever be comfortable around their jobs right now!
110k USD is high salary in US?
Nope! 110K USD is what I used to receive in India. :)
Why not say in INR? Are you ashamed to be Indian? 😛
What good things happened after you were laid off?
Layoffs are bad I know, but there's always a silver lining Now since that's in the past, we can ponder what was good
A view on Layoffs
Having recently been laid off, these last 2 months was a life changing experience and it taught me a lot of things than any degree or organisation ever did. Some pointers:

Layoffs a big deal? Positive side of layoffs
I don't know why everyone is making a big deal out of layoffs. Even the ones who laid off are not that concerned than the ones who comment.

Hope you get laid-off & get a good severance package! Will see how your job search goes.
