MBA Guidance

Hello grapevine folks,

I am a 2024 batch btech Cse , general male candidate from IIIT( 10 year old).

Class 12th - 97% (ISC) Class 10th - 96.4% (ICSE) Btech Cgpa - 9.415 (till 6th sem)

I am thinking of giving CAT next year but in dilemma that should I go for work experience or not . As iims do prefer people having work experience.

And what percentile should I aim for getting admission in old IIMs.

Thanks in advance.

I'm confused... is the IIIT 10 years old or are you? Better to have experience if you are targeting IIMs but can still work as you have sold academics That being said I think you can definitely bag an offer equal to what you will get after MBA right now so if in the end it's about the money then you can skip mba entirely

The placement scenario this year is very fucked up this year .
Companies coming to our college are very less and not providing that good package. Off campus also the situation is not conducive.

Get some work experience, it helps in two ways -

  1. Add more value to your MBA - In any case study based MBA program, you will be able to connect better. Bring examples from your work to the class, participate better in discussions.

  2. Save you from following the herd - Pre (2014/2018) era, majority MBA grads wanted to chase consulting as it was fancy. People without having clarity associated with the role jumped into consulting, burning themselves and pivoting after struggle. Nowadays PM is in fashion, if it’s right for you? Experience will help a lot here.

  3. Improve chances of post-MBA employment- Check records of any MBA school, you will see a correlation between salary with experience.

How do you aim for a specific percentile. Do your best. Also its not mandatory to have a work experience if yiu have a great percentile. All the best.
