Had a discussion (argument(?)) with one of the prospective students from IIM C, that all is rosy at IIMs and summer placements went well.
Sharing publically available material to counter those "facts", starting with a frantic email sent by IIMC Placecom to alums seeking summer placement opportunities for 80 students before the final day of placements.

Um it's just a degree bro. It won't solve any problems.
But doing any degree from a prestigious university increases your chances to get a better job and network when compared to the average joe.
That is all.
It's not a blanket statement. That's the point. Doing the degree from a prestigious college cannot be the defacto option. Just like other options, it has to be evaluated for its pros and cons.
For the average joe, it makes sense. But for a person who's already in a good role / starting up / wants to be in tech as a developer / wants to be in finance and is already a CA/CFA holder - > incremental returns need not justify the costs.
As I look back on my time at IIM, I am sad that it did not live up to my expectations. The name IIM carries weight, still I feel only IIM A/B/C should be called IIMs. The new and baby IIMs are dark black spots on the brand of IIMs. Even ...

The current scenario of MBA grads from non IIM colleges is literally so bad.
They have to agree on working free of cost for SIPs just to get an experience on their resume.
Unlike IT engineers they have to go to office 5/6 days a week...
