Mental Health and Your Career

TW: Mental Health Struggles

Hi there, folks!

I was contemplating about how my fellow professionals with mental health conditions manage their careers and grow despite the daily struggles.

You see, I deal with Clinical Depression and Anxiety which often hinders how I function day to day and have too manage through rigorous therapy and opting for heavy medication.

This condition often disables me to concentrate on long-term performance and stability in a ln organisation- I often get burnout within 6-7 months of the job & need to take a sabbatical of the work.

I will love to hear about anecdotes and see if we all can create a space here. Thanks! (:

I work remotely and intend to work remotely

I have found that not having the anxiety of reaching a different place every morning (and all the preparations that go into it) for work greatly helps my anxiety I'm more relaxed when I go to bed at night and when I wake up

I'm also surrounded by family who love and support me, so it really helps

Take breaks, mental health leave is a sick leave.

Take care of physical health, start by walking at least 5km every day. That's about an hour of walk time, spaced out. Try to get up and move around every 1-2 hours or so.

Give 100%... over a week. It's okay to be more productive on one day and then take it easy the rest of days. Find a rhythm that works best.

Set boundaries, no calls or texts after 6pm. I like to say "sundown is shutdown". 6:01 Friday is Monday's problem (barring extreme circumstances).

Prioritise yourself before the job. Remember you are replaceable in your job, not at home.

Great words buddy.... Even I am looking for a change due to 24*7 calls. Nowadays every company wants Amazon level culture while paying like TCS.

Anxiety is a real menace. I got depressed because I had less work in a company, and now I’m constantly anxious because I went to a company where I gotta work for a good while. I took therapy for a couple of years before the therapist disowned me, and I’m pretty much ignoring issues and am on my own in this. I just try to take it one day at a time, not take everything personally, and look after my food and sunlight intake. Water and clean food really helped, and regular sleep schedule too

Therapist disowned you?
