No Driverless cars in India: Transport Minister Mr. Gadkari

Is it a W or L for us consumers?

Even if he allows, it's technically not feasible in India. Hardly any lane marking, no standardized signage, too many two wheelers, no pedestrian friendly roads leading to extreme jaywalking and general lack of road discipline or respect for traffic rules. India is at least 50 years away so it's a decision for Nitin Gadkari's grandson or great grandson to make.

Why are people as stupid as this in power? Let's ban mobile phones because std/pco booth owners will suffer? Let's ban appcabs because taxi drivers will suffer? Ban ecommerce apps so that people are forced to buy from poor local businessmen? Why not make it mandatory to break at least 1 furniture piece in your house per year so that carpenters don't go out of business?

The point is if you are creating jobs by creating artificial problems to solve, or forcefully preventing simple solutions to problems, then it's not productive at all. It's just employing people to push a wall.

Well, automating driving doesn't make a lot of sense eitherways since it's been seen as a complete sensory experience and there's rookies and seasoned folks in there. Why automate something people are having fun/ are actively and willingly participating in? (yeah the accidents yes, but that's legit inevitable, aren't automated systems more vulnerable to remote attacks? Why not just make it safer for the drivers?)

Horse riding was fun, but we eventually replaced with cars.

We’ve the human capital

That capital can become a huge problem once AI and automation replaces a lot of jobs

In short term when that happens, yes. But eventually there will be new things for them to do. Basically we are fortunate to have this capital otherwise it wouldn’t have been easy to get house help

This was said about computers too. When the time for idea arrives, it will come. You like it or not. The same people will come on TV and talk about its benefits

OP, first think if this is technically feasible considering our road infra across the entire country

What’s the point of all this Rapido investment as I still won’t get any auto on that app?
