Northeast tour plan ideas

Looking to plan a week long trip to some northeast states with family ( parents and sibling ). I need some input from people here, ideally who have already been there.

• must visit states and places
• rough estimate of budget per person excluding flight
• stay recommendations in these places (3 star hotels or airbnbs)
• any package tour providers that you recommend
• things to avoid or be aware of
