[Off-Topic] Forgotten memories from a different era. Share your stories.
Was having a conversation with my SO today.
I think we’re probably the last generation who watched animated shows on TV as kids, as now the new trend is of “iPad” babies who watch content online?
We started discussing about how the channel you used to watch as a kid tells you so much about that person.
Like kids that watch Nickelodeon were so different than the kids who used to watch Disney. And the Cartoon Network kids were unhinged. 👀
Man, I don’t know how old is this audience but we used to have shows like Avatar-The Last Airbender, Kochikame, Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon.
And much before that Oswald, Noddy, Dexter’s Laboratory, Powerpuff Girls etc.
What is your favourite animated show from back in the day? Would love to hear some stories.
[Edit 1]: Grapevine has added a new edit feature on posts, and I am definitely watching Gravity Falls as recommended by DrProduct
[Edit 2]: That comment has been deleted since then. 👀

Aah good old days. Used to watch Hatim and Shaka laka boom boom.

Oh lord! This post and comment section just transported me to back to my school days! Lovely :') I remember how I included Kochikame, Pokémon, Son Pari, Disney Channel shows, etc in my study timetable and alloted specific time slots as per the show timings. Good old days :')

@SmartRing77 and do you remember we used to open the newspaper to check which shows would come today and at what time. 🥹

Yess!! While I'd wait for my school van, I'd do that and sometimes in the school library. Also, remember, cartoon network had birthday shoutouts, we had to email them with our birth date.

Toonami on Cartoon Network, 5:30 dragon ball z. Ah the good ol days

@salt is back with another top-quality thread!
I used to watch all the shows you mentioned. I kept circling between Nick, Disney, CN, POGO, etc. Kochikame's OP was a banger. RIP Yu-Gi-Oh's creator, dude was a legend.
One day, a new channel popped up called 'Animax' which was like a TV serial channel but for anime & I fell down that rabbit hole 🫡

@tzr Do you really feel so? I feel extremely happy that you said that.
You know? I really try to meditate and go back to think about these really small details that we all forget.
The joy of discovering something you forgot, is the ultimate joy because it reminds others to not take things too seriously.
Kochikame theme song. 😍 I just put it on YouTube to listen again.
Yeah, dude. Animax pioneered the Anime on TV concept in India. I haven’t watched a lot of anime but Avatar the Last Airbender is really amazing.

My memories would be a "bit" different from the general populace here. Born and brought up in Kerala, in mid-late 90s, I grew up reading the following magazines:
- Kaatile Kannan - story about a baby elephant in a forest
- Meesha Maarjaran - a cat who had huge whiskers
- Magic Maalu - the Rabbit who was a brilliant magician
- Maayavi - kinda like a Malayali Genie
By the 2000s, I got exposure to
- Pokemon. PS: The Kissan Jam was a regular buy thanks to the free Diamond cards!
- Courage the Cowardly Dog
- Scooby Doobee Do
- The Powerpuff Girls
- Shaktimaan
- Om Namah Shivaya

@Vforvendatto I feel we were the last of this generation to have a love for Comics and Cartoons. Then the next gen switched to the Internet.
Wow, Magazines that you mentioned sound really fun. I remember we used to get Champak or some other kind of comic/magazine on the railway station before heading for summer vacations.
Then, chilling in an AC Chair Car we used to read and relax while they used to bring out food that used to wait for. 🥺
I’ve never been to Kerala but I would love to visit Gods Own Country. Would love to experience the culture and heritage.
Your state is extremely beautiful, and I hope to experience it soon. 😊

Absolutely - Twinkle also used to be a big hit with Shuppandi. The good ol days :)
Also - hping that you have an amazing time in the hills, beaches, mangroves and backwaters of KL! Thanks.

Gravity falls is the bomb! Also check out Star Trek lower decks, inside job, owl house

Spent my childhood seeing Kochikame, Dbz and shinchan. Later my younger brother came him and he used to see doramon , oswald , perman and some other shows. These were good times🙌

@FrailBlack93 Seriously my man. Like that was a different era.
We used to have so much fun. Like I remember during summer vacations my intercom used to ring at 6am to play cricket before it got too hot.
Then at home drink Rasna and watch Cartoons.
Those were the days, man.
Also, @FrailBlack93 what are you upto these days?

I used to have tuitions and started playing basketball when turned 12 so never got time to watch later. Younger brother used to have doramon up the whole day so had to force watch it.
What I’m upto Just launched an NFT aggregator and dex on ordinals last week and running the hedge fund

Born in early 90s to a middle class family. Used to watch Shaktiman on Sundays and multiple mythological serials.
In cartoons, watched Simba the lion King on Sahara channel, Noddy, Oswald, Thomas the train, Bob the builder, captain planet, powerpuff girls, Dexter's laboratory etc on Cartoon network.
How can I forget chip and dale, Scrooge mcduck etc.
Life used to be simpler!

@LawfulPray11 For real, this is relatable on so many levels.
Do your remember MAD on PoGo? Music Art Dance, Rob used to teach some insane art skills that I never had the right materials for to replicate. 😂😂😂

I remember MAD. Used to wait till the end of the show to see rob unfold his magic. He used to make some damn good art on a big canvas at the end of show.

Swat cats, code name kids next door, kochikame, bob the builder, thomas and friends, detective conan.
Archies comics, champak with the jogo disc that started coming later on with mini games.

@CorpMafia Kids Next Door and Detective Conan were so good. But I think they did not dub the entire show and telecasted only a small part of it.

Yup. I switched to anime once I got into college and am still following detective conan.
