Pathway to Progress in PM Career

Hello everyone,

I'm a non-engineer who's been working as a PM/APM for roughly 1.5 years. I wanted to know what kind of course (short or long) could help to progress in a product management career (especially if I'm targeting to work in the sports/gaming/fitness/entertainment industry in and around Mumbai or anywhere remotely)

Would really appreciate inputs from experienced PMs

Not sure about any course but in general I can give you suggestions to improve your career progression.

I would classify you as an entry level PM, for this level following points should help -

  1. Simplification- I always tell young PMs, you should always try to simplify decision making process for your management. Help them to understand the area, pros and cons associated with various options and easy to understand communication.

  2. Proactiveness - At this level, exhibiting proactiveness will help you a lot in becoming a leader. Take proactive actions to communicate, connect and create roadmaps. Try learning some business metrics and include those in your communication with stakeholders.

Wish you luck!

Wanted to add that the course could be a degree/Masters/PG Program too

Study great products. See their journey. Chalk a path how your product can take that journey. If your product has pmf it’s all about scaling and there’s no limit. If not get pmf first that’s most difficult phase for products.
Rest its all about customers. Constantly work to make your solution best in a category. Talk to customers they will tell you 100 unsolved problems. Prioritise those problem and create solutions. Rinse and repeat . There’s no silver bullet.
