People who lecure to upskill to prevent layoffs need to stop 🛑

I noticed a trend on LinkedIn that people use the layoffs as an excuse to preach others that if you constantly upskill and learn then you will be safe from layoffs.

To any freshers who believe in this crap listen this - The folks who got laid off from companies are not in any way underskilled. I've seen my colleagues get laid off at my previous company who were extremely talented and responsible for building products from scratch.

These companies layoff people randomly and not skill based. They choose the people who are drawing more salary (often the most skilled) and fire them in the name of cost cutting. So, how does upskilling will help this situation?

Note that, the current tech market is unstable and will continue to be for next few years. Upskilling may get you up the corporate ladder but it won't in anyway save you from impending layoffs. The so-called influencers preaching this should STOP.

NOTICE this post, how this guy conveniently skipped mentioning Google layoffs in the list, since he currently works ar Google 😆

I swear dude, the subtle condescension is so annoying. "Don't be in your comfort zone" and shit - as if (most) people aren't already trying their best to stay up to date and keep their skills sharp. Sounds like classic victim blaming, if you ask me.

It is. But they also need to churn content because how else will they stay relevant as a "thought leader"

Why do people even give attention to these cringe influencer posts on LinkedIn. I've seen the same stupid recycled shit being posted by 5 different people. Scroll instagram if you want to doom scroll. LinkedIn posts are stupid asf 9 times out of 10.

People believe in people who win bruhhh! Society ☕. They never care about parameters of winners vs themselves. And hence this blind self sabotaging comes.

There are people selling out their courses/ endorsing other courses just to make money, they don't care who their audience is, they just want to make Layoffs as a reason to make people buy their courses.
Dobla pann!

so much wrong in this post... decision of who to fire may depend on anything - salary, ur rapport with manager, ur department (whole dept may become redundant), ur tenure, clout of ur manager (able to defend his team), etc. this may not be about skill et al

To be honest if you don’t upskill you’re actually self sabotaging your career especially with the rise of AI and tech.

End of the day companies now don’t value loyalty as much as how good of a resource you are. So you have would need to upskill.

BUT YES THESE LINKEDIN POSTS ARE DEFINITELY CRINGE
