Product question : why can someone "like" their own posts?
Is there any logic or reason as to why platforms allow liking your own posts?
If so, should people do it? Does it help in anyway?
Clown behavior, and not something I ever supported. Have seen multiple influencers on LinkedIn finding their own post "insightful". Bruh, of course, you bloody wrote it!
Such a major turnoff, and I almost immediately unfollow them the moment I see it.
I remember Quora as one of the major platforms that didn't allow the author to upvote their own posts, but I don't know if that's still the case.
Yeah, even the people on FB and insta who do it are largely seen as cringe. But the question still remains, what is even the point 😂
Is there a number of likes you need to hit for getting boosted by the algo or what.
That's definitely there. The more the engagement numbers (shares, likes, comments, saves), the more the algo thinks of the post as relevant. The whole reason behind people liking their own posts is to boost the number (even by 1) in hopes of the algo boosting it further.
Having said that, should people do it? I personally do not think so. It doesn't sound ethical to me, and hence not something I've ever done in any of my social media posts so far.
Sometimes I like what I say
It’s a bug not a feature
