Small fish in a big tank or big fish in a small tank?

Folks, have you ever switched from a Manager position in a stable startup to a senior position in a small startup? How do you evaluate the move?

Think bigger. Be the person who owns the tanks.

  1. Not everybody is gonna be big fish in small tank. People think that if they join startup they are gonna be big fish not true 100%. There are employees already who are sailing the boat and they will continue to sail the boat unless you do something exceptional
  2. If you do exceptional things in big company you can also become favorite.
  3. Small tanks are not safe but there is a higher risk and reward
  4. Any tank can now kick fish out anytime. So don't be dependant on company. If you can not get enough time to find a new job in small companies owing to work pressure. It won't be good. Rest you can decide if you want to take higher risk and hope for higher reward or vice versa

When the small fish becomes big, the ‘leadership’ becomes middle managers. Have seen it happening at multiple places
