Snap (Snapchat) has laid off nearly 20 product managers
How is the Product Management market in India? I have been hearing that compensation for PM roles are coming back to pre-Covid times (a few exceptional people I knew got laid off but found higher paying opportunities within weeks)

No more snap streaks for them I guess
Market is correcting for sure. Quality PMs are able to get higher salaries but the salary at the junior or mid junior level have corrected
How does one define a quality PM?
IMO PMs should be people who have worked in developer/coder roles.
MBA PMs are taken for a run by their team and vendors.
(A vendor I know charges 2-3x if he sees that the startup has PMs with no prior coding/developer experience)
Quality PMs would have solved impactful problems in the space that they worked in. Their work speaks for themselves. It’s got nothing to do with coding. PMs don’t need to code, they need to understand how tech works. And you can learn that without learning to code. Although I do agree it’s great for PMs to have at least one core skill set in design/analytics/coding to provide real value to the team. I also believe that PM should not be a fresher role. Even MBA folks should start as APMs if they don’t have prior work experience, to learn the ropes from an experienced PM
If you are good at your craft and have solved impactful problems, you will have no problem in finding the right role with good pay. The last few years had created a surge in PM titles due to the hype. Any random role was converted to a PM role since all candidates wanted that PM tag to brag about on their Linkedin profile.
These folks will surely feel the heat in the current market.
There is correction happening as there is more supply (candidates) than demand (jobs), so few roles especially entry roles are getting less pay. So, folks looking to transition should keep this in mind
What are the new salary ranges? Earlier it was 30 for pm and 40 for some - avg
