Starting work in a month, would love some advice!

I am starting as an Associate in a management consulting firm. From all the more experienced folks out here, would love to hear about your first job experiences. Things that you did that made it a better experience or things that you wish you had done (or not done). Really anxious about it, so any random experiences are also welcome!

I found it helpful to realize that an employee is just a cog in the wheel and is easily replaceable

Took me a while to pick this up coz my reviews were great so I thought I was more than a cog in the wheel

How did a shift in thinking impact your actions irl?

Good analogy would be founder vs senior employee - used to go out of my way to deliver, more stress and poorer wlb

Colleagues are not family. I repeat, your colleagues are not family. If your boss or your ceo often says "We are a family" then run on the other direction.

How do you define these boundaries between colleagues and friends?

My two cents on your first job.

Know that you will take up another job in the future. Do justice to your current job. WLB will come soon enough and so will the money.

You are a sponge in your 20s so live experiences that will help you appreciate your 30s where you apply things you learnt in your 20s.

Leave grapevine. Build your own perspective about things for the first 6 months and then join back
