Swiggy has two tracks - IC and Manager. Up to SDE3, the journey is same.
SDE1 SDE2 SDE3
All managers are expected to be really good with tech and at par with the corresponding IC level.
- SDE4 or Engineering Manager
- Principal Software Engineer (aka Architect) or Senior Engineering Manager
- Senior PSE or Director of Engineering
After this comes super senior IC roles (Distinguished Engineer, Fellow etc) and VP roles (AVP, VP and SVP).
The above level reports directly to the CTO.

Quite simple. How have you guys been able to manage such lean bands? Specifically in the Sd1,2,3 categories?
How frequent are the promos?

Responsibilities and expectations are defined in a Levelling Guideline. Swiggy is more or less same as Amazon in these processes and values.
- SDE1 = typically 0 to 2 year experienced
- SDE2 = senior engineers, who owns components
- SDE3 = lead engineers who own services, with some of them having devs reporting to them too.
Promotions happen every 6 months in appraisal cycle and heavily relies on the competencies defined in Levelling Guidelines, peer feedbacks and impact created. For SDE4/EM, promotions can happen anytime.
