This is NOT the India I grew up in

I am in shock that the Canadian PM, in the Canadian Parliament no less has alleged that India has eliminated a khalistani on Canadian soil. I still remember the days, when the single greatest attack on the soul of the country took place in Mumbai on 26/11, all we could do was establish backchannel diplomacy with the likes of the US to get Pakistan to 'calm down'. Not a single bullet was fired in return in a nation that perceived our weak national security as par for the course, getting the Congress led UPA that presided over this moment of unparalleled humiliation, a thumping verdict in 2009. That was an India where we would lament the lack of credible retaliation options including Covert Ops. It was often stated that IK Gujral rolled back R&AW operations outside the country as an excuse for our lack. Although, no action was taken to initiate the operations again. NONE. But excuses were ready should failures occur again.

That India of my childhood, seems like a distant past. When URI and Balakot happened, we crossed the LoC and launched Spl Ops to impose rising costs upon Pakistani aggression. Khalistani or old thoroughbred battle hardened Islamic Jihad commanders in Pakistan or PoK are being neutralized, further raising costs to threatening Indian interests.

This is not the India I grew up in. 2004-14, when we ought to have taken off, came a pauper after the initial global liquidity fuelled growth from 04-07. Congress went on a far left loony socialistic binge, with massive amounts of debt given to Crony Industrialist friends leading to an NPA crisis which led to Private investment paralysis, plummeting growth further, and inflation hitting the skies.

But now, we are poised for a decade or two of rapid, high quality, solid economic growth. All of these factors combine to bolster our Gross National Power like never before.

We were supposed to be poor, timid and helpless. We pursued sympathy over strength. But I guess, this is no longer the India we knew of.

This is not the India I grew up, where there was some trust left between religious communities and people were mostly tolerant of each other. Indian cricket team had a Muslim captain, and now an Indian Muslim fastbowler is facing Internet trolls.

This is not the India I grew up in where hate mongering was not mainstream and was frowned upon.

This is not the India I grew up in. Democratic institutions were fairly independent and there was no Supreme leader worship among the masses.

This narrative is as fake as that of Rahul Gandhi 's sincerity during his temple visits before elections. This PEW survey, done as recently as 2021, has 98% Muslims SELF-REPORTING that they are FREE TO PRACTICE THEIR RELIGION in India, with virtually no one answering "not at all free". 24% say there is "a lot of discrimination" against Muslims, compared to 72% who say "not a lot" (with the remaining 4% answering "Don't know"). To put these figures in perspective, when Pew put the exact same question to Americans, 80% of AFRICAN-AMERICANS, 46% of HISPANIC AMERICANS, and 42% of ASIAN AMERICANS said they face "a lot of discrimination" in the U.S. And USA is supposedly the greatest multicultural, liberal and free space there is, scoring much above India in democracy indices always.

I have NOT MENTIONED Islam or Muslim anywhere in my post above. Why do you come butting in with your bigoted naked communalism peddling fake propaganda? Insecure much?

LMAO! Hateful bigots like you need to read up on how Indira Gandhi and PN Haskar (her chief bureaucrat and strategist) assumed control of all institutions through a Committed Judiciary, Committed Bureaucracy and Pliant journalism. Later on academic control was ceded to the Marxists in a convenient arrangement. Since then, the whole of Academia, Judiciary and Bureaucracy have been within the firm grasp of the Congress led secular-left-liberal ecosystem.

But "Modi is taking over all institutions" just because darbari propagandists like Ravish Kumar say it, so it must be tr00 bruh!

I am no expert on this topic. I just see we just jeopardised billions of worth of trades and services with Canada over a bunch of rando Khalistanis irrespective of whoever is right or wrong.

What makes you believe that it is we, who did it?

  1. We are not the ones who escalated this matter .

  2. As a democratic nation which is a victim of religious terrorism 1000 years and counting, and given Canada's own pronouncements to rule of law, why have they given shelter to Khalistani terrorism who are openly targeting Indian state assets in their soil?

  3. What makes you think we are suspending bilateral trading relations?

  4. They stand to lose out on much more than us. India is the best bet to export disinflation to the West after decoupling from China.

  5. Not everything can be measured in terms of $$, nahin toh maa ko bechke bhi kha sakte hain.

As I said doesn't matter who is wrong or right. At the end it impacts the average guy if prices increase due to worsening bilateral trades. Yes religious terrorism is bad but we can only request countries to do something about it but usually they don't give a f. And well..... Pretty sure our politicians and rich people will sell their mothers and motherland to make more monnies.

What absolute crap. 2004-2007 US FED raised rates, and in the beginning of 2008 and after the crisis the actual zero interest rate regime began. BJP has been lucky to have the most extended period of low US rates and high liquidity time in history. Rates stayed below 2% for the entirety of NDA2. https://tradingeconomics.com/united-states/interest-rate

also, what is the nonsense about India being some bully to Canada today? Remember 1971, 5 years after becoming PM, Indira Gandhi tore Pakistan into 2. your claim to fame is surgical strikes? against a Pakistan that, after 2011, is no longer relevant to the US? Pakistan started declining in 2012 and now is at its weakest ever. Why not talk about how Modiji responded to China? Talking about China delinking while the India-China trade deficit touched the $70 billion mark and was its highest in 2022. why not talk about the actual good that the govt does instead of pulling others down? roads, infra digital all have been good. that should e enough to win another election. no need to spew random hate

03-08 FED (and Beyond) interest rates were at their historical LOWEST even at the peak of Subprime (look up your shared link) Don't really know where you are trying to get at BUT Correlation does NOT equal causation. Just because money is available cheaply does NOT mean investments are bound to come my way, economic fundamentals matter. A Zimbabwe did not get funds flowing in their direction just because ZIRP.
So, drop the cocky pretensions and read on as I SCHOOL you.

03-08 was a GOLDEN RUN for the GLOBAL economy. The US had growth rates of 3.5-4%, even a PAKISTAN had high growth rates of close to 7%. China ofc was the runaway winner. This was brought about by a deluge of developed world capital flowing into Emerging Markets. What Congress led UPA gov did was taking this as granted and OVERSPENDING after taking massive loans on inefficient "Right to Xs" thereby HEATING the economy up to dizzying levels. The 03-08 period growth had NOTHING to do with socialistic Congress/UPA but more to do with this ONCE IN SEVERAL DECADES global liquidity glut + BJP ABV reforms effecting with a lag.

Don't go by my word for though: Here is Ruchir Sharma

https://m.economictimes.com/opinion/interviews/pre-2003-growth-rates-to-be-new-normal-for-indian-economy-ruchir-sharma-morgan-stanley/articleshow/14004922.cms

Following this, the world NEVER came back to these levels of growth. The US peak growth halved more or less from 4% to 2-2.5%. So sustaining 8-10% growth for India also became infeasible. As Ruchir says, given India's fundamentals during UPA we would only average 4-4.5 going forth. The double whammy of inflation, lack of growth, and over leveraged banking sector (where Congi friendly bizmen got cheap loans but the conditions to make repay the loans were no longer there owing to slowing growth) led to fall in consumption as well as investment. This meant we were in DOLDRUMS. The whole economic mess lasted well into 2018 (BANK NPA).

BoogieMan
BoogieMan

Adding to the above:

Since global growth halved from the UPA-2 peak of 03-08, BJP still did great by sustaining 6-7 average growth till the pandemic happened. The inherent imbalances of NPA leading to lack of private investments, overheating took a few years into Modi's term to sort out. BUT, we are back now.

//Indira Gandhi tore Pakistan into 2 Of what use is it, when we could not even bargain for PoK in return for Bangladesh. In fact, Bangladesh has infiltrated many more Bangladeshis 1.5-2 crore in WB and Assam than Pak could have ever hoped for. Under a nuclear overhang things have changed A LOT.

//India-China Trade deficit touched USD 70 billion.

Who ballooned the Indo-China trade and made India rely upon Chinese imports to the detriment of industry? Look at the figure of 04 Indo-China trade vis-a-vis 2014. Yes the answer is CONGI.

//Pakistan is no longer relevant to US

Is that why the US removing them from FATF blacklist, giving them plum weapons package and/or initiating an Army led regime change coup against Imran Khan?

Now SIT DOWN.

Thanks for writing such an insightful post. I think many of my friends are quite apolitical, but I have heard from my uncles about the UPA2 misrule.

My uncle had shared an anecdote about Mufti/Maulana (Islamic religious preacher) Ilias Kashmiri a dreaded Muslim terrorist. So the story goes, when Kashmiri sent his men to abduct people for raising extortion money to fund jihad in Kashmir, his men picked up Israeli & American citizens.

Kashmiri got furious at his men and asked them to return the Israeli and American citizens immediately. When he was asked as to why should they let go of such infidels and ‘enemies of Islam’, Kashmiri responded by saying that if they did not do so, their entire unit and all of their men would be taken out by Mossad or CIA operatives.

I think we have a long way to go. But I am glad we have finally kickstarted the covert operations doctrine against these sub conventional actors.

Very interesting. He was killed by US drone strikes in Afghanistan.

This is not the India I grew up in, where police and bystanders watch while women are raped and killed in the streets.

This is not the India I grew up in, where people are lynched by mobs on suspicion of crime without proof.

This is not the India I grew up in, where tribals and villagers are forcefully removed from their homes to make way for mining and industrialisation, often by mafias working with the authorities.

This is not the India I grew up in, where deaths from a pandemic are hidden and numbers buried to save face.

This is not the India I grew up in, where people live in fear of Hindus. Where corruption is still rampant and lokpal bill still missing. Where women are still afraid to step out at night. Where children are taught to hate other children simply because of the faith they were born into.

PS: no need to reply with rebuttals mentioning abc did xyz. Current government is not a perfect one, it has multiple failures that everyone is well aware of. Your desperation to justify everything and indulge in whataboutery reeks of IT cell behaviour.

-Are you sure none of these happened earlier? -Are you of the opinion that industrialization should not happen since it requires land acquisition? And did all such industrial land acquisition only happen post 2014? In which case, do you choose to opt out of your job as that might require you to go to your physical office which would also have likely displaced some unprivileged sections of the society? -Were the cow thieves and smugglers, not lynched earlier too because the state failed to enforce l&o? -Did India become suddenly unsafe for women post 2014? -Were there no Muslim on Hindu or vice-versa aggression and discrimination before 2014?
-Deaths from the pandemic are hidden? A basic statistical look will dispel all such notions.

You are speaking like a Congi propagandist here. Easy to punch holes in your rhetoric without even rebutting them. Anyone unwarrantedly calling anyone 'IT Cell' is suspect.

This government was elected on the premise that things would be better. If they're not improving, they should be questioned. People don't elect governments to maintain status quo.

Women are not safer than before, it's a fact. PM still hasn't visited Manipur and conflict is still ongoing, it's a fact. They promised to curb corruption and bring back black money but haven't, it's a fact. Demonetisation was poorly planned, killed businesses and led to deaths, it's a fact. They promised lokpal and still haven't delivered, it's a fact.

There was no preparation for the second wave even though we could see death and destruction in the first wave. Utter failure of systems with destitute people running around for basic medicines and oxygen.

One just needs to look at the BJP election manifesto to see which promises are still unfulfilled 5-10 years later.
