Of course, it will be bizarre for most in Europe. People sure work long hours there as well especially in startups but it would be the owners for the most part. Employees are usually not expected to work insane hours. There is a sense of work boundaries. People do not call or message on personal contact for work. Work related communication is done via email or channels like Slack. It gives them time for oneself or with family which is very important for building and maintaining relationships.
Work also starts early by 8 or 9 AM, so people get off by evening around 5 to spend time on their interests or with family. Emergency overtime once in a while is fine and expected otherwise, the usual workday is a good and healthy way of working and living by all measures.
