Trump incoming. How are we feeling? What will this mean for the world & India?

Honestly, if Trump wins, I think the geopolitical impact will be massive. His "America First" policy could really strain U.S. relations with allies in NATO and Asia, and I imagine we'll see some pullbacks on climate commitments too.

True! Trump wasn't exactly a fan of international alliances. For India, though, he could be a double-edged sword. On one hand, he and Modi seemed to get along pretty well, but on the other, his immigration policies were super strict, which affected a lot of Indian tech professionals.

Looking at this objectively from New Delhi's perspective - a second Trump presidency could actually benefit India in some ways. During his first term, Trump took a much harder stance on China than Biden, which aligned with India's interests. Plus, he was openly supportive of India's position in the Indo-Pacific.

True, but let's not forget how unpredictable he was. Remember how he offered to "mediate" the Kashmir issue despite India's clear position that it's a bilateral matter? His transactional approach to foreign policy could be problematic.
Even if a trump win is better for India, your life in India will still say the same. So all this is meaningless.

I'm more worried about H1B visas. Last time Trump tried to restrict them. With AI and tech layoffs being hot topics now, he might be even tougher on work visas this time.

Indeed he will be, and he may start sending plane loads of Gujaratis back!! (No offence to Guajaratis, it is just a reference to a recent plane load)

How can Gujaratis be send back? Are they illegal or on Visa? I believe they are majorly family based immigrant which can not be touched when they are citizen.
Yes, I can recall that H1 and L1 visas and renewals were severely affected last time. Indians in USA are rejoicing Trump coming back, but it would affect them the most if they don't have Green card.

This was inevitable. Wasn’t it?
Elon is a winner. He will be a winner whatever he chooses

More tax on indian goods, american goods In India, more jobs for US, India Europe corridor faster, more decoupling with china

But consider this: Trump's "America First" manufacturing push actually helped India. Companies looking to diversify from China chose India as an alternative. Apple's recent manufacturing shift to India is partly due to that pressure on China.

I am going to USA for my masters, what does that mean for people like me in terms of job opportunities, job market, immigration and visa?

Not a good time till 2028, read other comments

You going for educational opportunities is Ok. By the time you finishes it, your home country will be the best booming economy & you should be returning back. De-dollarization will be rampant.
Even Trump-Modi duo will be more friendly, each being nationalists of their own people, the HBA Visa(s) for sure will be cut down. And this is a win-win for both countries.
India retains its brain & entrepreneurs, and there the migration explosion issues will start imploding, for better America.
Your people need you.

Will there be any affect on IT job hirings in India. If Trump wins?

Definitely. Little lesser hiring, because the pattern that you lay off Americans and hire Indians at offshore, will certainly see a reduction.
