upskilling- market research
Can anybody in the market research or insights space help me with upskilling? I graduated recently and I'm new to this field but obviously would like some direction on the skills I need to work on
For qualitative research, empathy, the ability to ask broad open ended questions and then drill down, analyse and code ton loads of subjective data are core skills needed. From a techniques perspective interviews, FGDs are the more commonly used ones. For quantitative, you need advanced Excel skills. You also need to learn how to run an NPS, brand track, ad eval etc. Articles by Ipsos, Nielsen, Kantar are a good place to start for qual and quant research understanding. User research makes use of things like usability testing, card sorts, think aloud testing etc. The interaction Design Foundation is a good place to start on this. How to choose a sample that's relevant and large enough, setting up research ops, ensuring research output is relevant and actionable, the dovetail blog has something interesting articles around these.
Thank you These are very detailed How's the hiring for market research rn? I'm pretty new to the field so I'm still working things out
The demand for UXR roles is pretty high right now, however historically they have preferred folks from a design, psychology, anthropology kinda background is what I've observed. For market research it's the three big agencies Nielsen, Kantar, Ipsos where people usually start off and what a lot of companies check for in past work ex, especially if you wanna do quant research.
I've recently seen a lot of openings in the startup space for research roles, so yeah it's definitely seems like a function that's on the uptake.
