Went for a high profile event, mood towards govt is dismal

Can't share too many details but basically went to an invite only event with some program unveiling and partnership announcements from GOI and other companies.

Minister who was chief guest arrived late, other guests (also ministers) arrived later than him.

After arriving, he starts his speech by saying i left important work to be here bla bla bla, sheer arrogance in the way he conducted himself. Didn't even speak in Hindi, was speaking to press the entire time and didn't care about Hindi speaking locals and audience who were specially invited for the event. Clicked photos, then left within 20-30 minutes of arriving.

Other guests who were invited who i spoke to (non GOI) were saying the same thing - this govt is all talk and big numbers, detached from ground reality. They were brought there for optics, not for any change or meaningful work. And they can't say no either.

GOI has become an entity who everyone puts up with, not out of choice. No one wishes to engage with ministers willingly anymore. They are forced to. Because when it all comes down to real work and projects, they want their own commissions / benefits regardless of the project at hand. And they will act like kings throughout the process, no scope for dialogue or negotiation.

I think it's time for more corporate and startup leaders to join politics and clean up the act. Someone needs to. Or else we will lose a lot of business to neighbouring countries in the next few years.

I don't mean Pakistan or Bangladesh. I mean Dubai, Saudi, Singapore, Thailand, Mauritius etc.

Everyone from adani to Infosys has offshore entities because of ease of business and saving taxes.

For those countries we are absolutely ill equipped. Democracy with largely poor people isn’t a great growth catalyst.

oh.. so corporate and start up leaders are awesome? If they step in they will clean up ? they couldnt run a company profitable in 10 years. and still call themselves startup.

This gvmt is the proof that if you market a product well, even shit sell. But i whole heartedly support this gvmt for one reason only - "scorched earth". Reservation above 50% is now certain. Am not going to work 12 hrs a day so that a farmer can drive around in a fortuner, or some rich man can send his son/daughter to study medicine without paying any fees under reservation or a gvmt babu can enjoy life long inflation indexed pension. this gvmt for another 10 years, we will face hyper inflation and go Venezuela. The babus might be safe, but the rest are fucked. Am ready to suffer, if that will get others to suffer as well.

This is exactly my point, everyone has a dismal outlook towards the govt. Doesn't matter who supports who, everyone knows current govt is incompetent.

Such a scenario requires fresh faces from new places. Corporate leaders are the only ones remaining who haven't joined the fray actively yet.

who is capable among corporate leaders? - Most leaders of established companies are either paper pushers, or chamchas of the previous leadership. If indian politicians are bad, Indian corporate leadership is worse. They know nothing more than cost cutting.

From startup world, the lesser we talk the better.

Political leadership and business leadership are different. Leading a startup is like constructing a building from scratch. Democracy doesnt get things done here. One must be autocratic. Most start up leaders are autocratic. Its always thier way or the high way. It will work there because they are the founders or its thier money. IN politics it wont work.

Leading an established company is like being the president of RWA in an apartment. The toughest negotiation they would have done is probably with the painting contractor or maintenance contractor. Calling them leaders itself is a shame. At most they are highly paid clerks. who get appointed because some majority shareholder wants him on board,

Loosing business to neighbouring countries - looking at most of our neighbouring countries, I don’t think we have to worry.
