What is the darkest truth that most engineers don't talk about?

For me it is that sometimes I quote 2x the time it will take for me to code something because I want to test it better and ensure that I don't push code with bugs that affects prod deployment with downtime or unintended behaviour. I can do it faster but I know that PMs don't respect developer time and will ask me to build stuff because they want to get promoted for real.

The fact that the person who broke prod and then fixed the production issue at 2 AM is praised more than the person who pushed clean code to prod and didn’t break it at all

Irrespective of what the salary is, a frontend engineer does the same work if his salary is 5LPA or 50LPA.

You’re never rewarded for work done in silence. You’ve to be public and vocal about the work done. The loudest voice most likely takes all the reward unless you have a really good manager. :)
