When is Jio launching its own version of TikTok?
Seems apt, now that there are everywhere incl OTT, next thing to capture would be social media.
I think they’ll eventually make everything:
- TikTok for India
- AWS for Asia
- Premium Smartphones
Tiktoks, reels and short are not working, and platforms are pulling away to other types of content.
Main reason quoted is poor retention because of shallow engagement due to short length+ less time to plugin ads (supply is also drying up)
Also the biggest ad spenders like traditional companies with well crafted long ads you see on tv, won't have room plus donts want to advertise on reels/tiktoks.
Recent moves made by IG and tiktok to highlight this:
Tiktok - extending video length to 10min again for deeper engagement with viewers & more room for plugging ads/sponsored content (example of later is how podcast Bros like huberman, lex Friedman types have episodes running for longer hours over time - to plug more sponsors plugins ) Also tiktok has launched landscape in mobile in a move to become like guess what - YT.
Instagram: Their ad revenues were coming from stories and posts, and all these traffic got diverted to reels and hurt their ad revenues.
Also on side note: having worked in a startup in user generated content space - it's tough as hell. The scale of audience needed for experimenting and to monetise is more than what Indian market can provide. Companies like sharechat and even the short video counterparts like moj are struggling with monetisatio with just only Indian audiences.
Point noted :p
Jis din Ambani ka khoon khaulega
Jio Shorts already exist.
