MBA at a BLACKI IIM after becoming a PM?
Is it recommended to go for an MBA at a BLACKI IIM after having close to 1 year of Product Management Experience as an APM and PM at early stage startups?
I think this is the best platform to ask this question. My goal with the IIM is to get connections and grow my network.
IIM Kashipur IIIM Bodh gaya IIM Sambalpur IIM Trichy IIM Raipur IIM Udaipur IIM Sirmaur
I’ve previously worked on various positions in multiple startups with 3 exits. Also worked with VCs as partner / investor. Currently am a Hedge fund manager and indie hacker.
My goal’s to make connections that will help me to get ahead in life. I really want to know which one to go for
Also pls tell why should I join the particular IIM thanks 🙏
Why do you want to go to these newer IIMs? What do you expect out of an MBA?
Many doors were closed for me for last few years I think IIMs are great equaliser for opening those doors
Can you be more specific? I went to one of the older ones and I can confirm whether your assumptions are valid so that you don't have to waste two years and 30 lakhs in fees to figure it out.
Sambalpur has good management. Placements are superb. Not everyone gets the high package in all institutions, depends on individual capabilities. I recommend Sambalpur 😅👍. Red flag for Trichy
Why red flag for Trichy sir?
My seniors told not to , there are some internal problems that might not visible to outsiders like us, so a proper guidance from alumnis will help us.
Can you afford to take another attempt given the time-effort commitments? I think for your profile, targeting BLACK makes more sense. You'll prolly get a better leverage on contacts & network.
Thanks sir🙏 I admire BLACK IIM . I don’t want to risk this opportunity I studied really hard and only got in the above IIMs if I’m to put more I’m not really sure what i can put more. And now fund has started and will not have time like before
Check placement reports, collect job profile info from current students for the above colleges. All the best!
TLDR : Avoid all of these and try again next year.
Can highlight where not to go : Raipur (because of location: it is a big recruting constraint), the newer of the newer ones - B, Sa, Sir (because of age in network, and location).
I sense you pretty much have a solid work ex and will benefit from a stronger alum base of campuses that send ppl to VC/ startup roles.
I cannot leave these chances. Parents will not accept they have already told all my relatives and my Venture Partner also are the support to go for it and not waste the year. We have already raised 60mn for our hedge fund and cannot stop the momentum and this IIM tag will just add more respect for our fund altogether
First of all congrats. 60Mn INR or USD?
I will be blunt here. For your accomplishments, I am disappointed that it matters to you what your relatives think or parents will accept. If this startup doesnt work, your MBA will be the next big thing in your profile. Don't do it so casually.
If you have raised 60mn$, your output is already better than what any of these schools will provide. Your Venture partner is misleding you. Better you join and drop in 1 month. Take the tag and not spend 2 yrs.
And why not do ISB? Shorter time period, great network and no fuss of cat.
