The HR head is on paper good but way too traditional and lazy types to handle Zepto kind of company. Or for that matter any startup. Most of these startup’s hire these kind of HR heads and loose their culture. It took way too long for Zepto to realise this and let the person go.
It was the right decision to let the person leave before a year completes. Such senior leadership roles have very high accountability and they are all paid way above the market in terms of salary and equity. The HR head has the most important responsibility to be in the know how of what is going on with the company, identify issues and then fix it quickly. They are people experts so they better handle the people issues and also guide the leaders. Being quiet and being non-committal is not the HR head role.
